“So be careful how you [live], not as unwise but as wise making the most of your time because the days are evil. So then, do not be foolish but understand what the will of the Lord is.”

– Ephesians 5:15-17, New American Standard Bible

How strange would it be if each day you and your parents got up, ate breakfast, dressed yourselves and then got into your car with no idea about where you were going? Sadly our lives have grown to be that way. Somewhere between Genesis and modern day we stopped being intentional with our living and started developing a go with the flow mentality for everything.

This. Should. Not. Be.

Time is one of, if not our most precious commodity and unlike money, once it’s spent we can’t work to get more of it. So we must constantly tap into God’s wisdom and ask Him how He would have us to live on a daily basis. This starts with prayer to Him and time in His word to see what He has to say about what we’re dealing with.

Then, once we’ve heard from Him we must commit ourselves to the tasks He’s given and write out a goals list. Habakkuk 2:2 (Holman Christian Standard Bible) says “Write down the vision; clearly inscribe it on tablets so one may easily read it.” If we don’t take the time to write out our goals it’s hard to know if we’re making progress. My hope for you is that when you enter the gates of heaven God will greet you with open arms, a smile and the words “Well done my good and faithful servant.” That happens when you live intentionally and commit yourself to knowing “what the will of the Lord is.”

Get to it.

What do you think the Lord’s will for your life is?

What do you think it would take for you to get a clearer picture of what that looks like if you don’t have one already?

When is the last time you sat down and did some serious goal setting?
