“I believe that everyone has a story to share about how God turned their trials into triumphs!,” she says.

BGWP: What does it mean to you to be a black girl with purpose?

Karolyne: A black girl with purpose is one who is confident in her identity and knows her worth in Christ. She understands that she is fearfully and wonderfully made with a unique calling and embraces every part of who God created her to be!

BGWP: When did you feel like you realized your purpose or first got a glimpse of what your purpose is?

Karolyne: When I first started my publishing company a few years ago, I realized that I had a passion for hearing the stories of other women and helping them bring those stories to life. After growing a relationship with my authors, I felt led to close my publishing company and start the Writers Retreat. Now I get to meet with ladies 1-on-1 all across the world and come alongside them in birthing their writing projects. I love that it is more than a business transaction, but we are actually doing like together and fulfilling one purpose, which is to spread the gospel while bringing God glory through our lives.

BGWP: What is the hardest part about walking in your purpose?

Karolyne: Being stretched in my faith. Purpose will require you to rely on God for everything. We can’t do anything outside of Him. Whenever you’re operating in purpose, you will soon realize that it is bigger than YOU.

BGWP: What would you say to someone who doesn’t know where to start to find their purpose?

Karolyne: Stop looking for your purpose… seek God before all else, and purpose will find you. The most important thing is to continue to be obedient to the voice of the Holy Spirit day by day. Everything He’s telling you to do, it’s for a reason. You may not understand now… but it will all work together in the end. God has used different life experiences and seasons to prepare me for my purpose. I didn’t know it at the time… but I just remained obedient.  Now that I understand my purpose, I see that it’s been years in the making. God doesn’t waste anything. Everything you’ve gone through in your past will be put to use. Trust Him.

BGWP: What’s your go to scripture when you find yourself lacking direction?

Karolyne: “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” – James 1:5

BGWP: This month’s theme is all about birthing something new. With that theme in mind, how did God birth the The Writers Retreat through you?

Karolyne: I believe that God has been preparing me to birth the Writers Retreat for years. This is definitely not something that happened over night. Just like a baby, there is a growing process. It was God that planted this gift of writing on the inside of me and in and out of every season I would water, feed, and cultivate that gift. Now that it’s the season to bring my passions forth, I am birthing out this ministry of the Writers Retreat. There is a due date given to every pregnant woman. In the same way, God had this season mapped out for me and planned before He even formed me in my mother’s womb.

BGWP: What are some of the “labor pains” you go through when writing a new book?

Karolyne: I am definitely tested whenever I’m writing a new book. I have to pass the tests for what I’m preaching and sharing if there’s going to be any true anointing and impact. It’s not easy. A book will many times challenge you to dig up the past and face the ugly and hurt parts of you. Writing a book in itself can be a journey of healing, deliverance, and discovery. That’s what it has always been for me.
