I’ve talked to a lot of young women over the past year and one of the things we tend to talk about most often is time management. Whether it’s the desire to get more done in less time, to have more time to do less or just wanting an overall feeling of “my life is togetherness”- every individual I’ve spoken with seems to understand time management’s importance.

Nevertheless, the knowledge that you should do something and the desire to do it can be mutually exclusive. So today we’re talking about reasons you should love time management because I firmly believe anyone who does not practice a specific discipline only does so because they don’t understand its particular advantages.

Allow me to create an illustration. At your school, college campus or job, there may be someone no one talks to – maybe they dress strange, they have peculiar habits or they stay to themselves naturally. One day though, this person shows you how they get as on all of the tests and you find yourself completely astounded. From then on, you start to spend most of your free time with this new friend. You wonder how you ever existed without them! Time management can be this new friend! It may seem strange to begin with but once you understand its benefits I firmly believe you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.

Time Management Helps Reduce Stress

Years ago Jeffrey Janata, PH.D. shared in an abcnews.com article that stress if often caused by “a perceived lack of control.” Whether it be homework overload or a lack of confidence in your work performance time management can help change that feeling. By scheduling time to work on your assignments for both work and school – you can set yourself to be ahead of the game and gain back some of your overall control. With a clear schedule and clearer head, you’ll be ready to knock out everything on your to-do list.

Time Management Gives You More Time

I don’t think anyone who’s walked this planet hasn’t uttered the phrase “If I just had more time I’d be able to do x.” But we all have the same 24 hours a day. The difference between those who say this phrase all the time and those who don’t is great time management. Great time management involves prioritizing which means you become better at saying no to the things that don’t matter and yes to the ones that do. This frees up more of the time in your 24 hours and helps you to be more effective – providing gaps in your schedule to walk in your purpose!

Time Management Leads to Better Organization

The third reason to love time management is that it leads to better organization Time management is all about systems and once you master it, you’ll most likely apply the same principles to other aspects of your life – thereby becoming more organized. It’s a ripple effect!

Overall, successful time management enhances your quality of life. With reduced stress, what will feel like more time and better organization you’ll be more equipped to go and live out your purpose and that’s always our main focus!
